Windows Made of Fiberglass
Fiberglass and composite-frame windows are the newest options for replacement windows on the market today. They are both maintenance-free and more energy efficient than vinyl. Plus they are affordable, priced roughly between vinyl and wood.
Advantages of Fiberglass
- Fiberglass windows can be painted like wood to suit your taste whereas vinyl windows come pre-painted and have limited color choices.
- Fiberglass replacement window frames can hold large expanses of glass.
- Fiberglass windows are also maintenance-free – the material resists rotting, warping and cracking and is insect-, rust- and splinter-resistant.
- Some fiberglass window frames are hollow; others are filled with various forms of insulation. Fiberglass is more energy-efficient than aluminum and is stronger and more durable than vinyl or wood windows.
- They can be used in every type of climate from the harshest of winters to the most humid of summers. Even in the most extreme temperature changes, Fiberglass will maintain their rigidity. Vinyl windows on the other hand can lose their from under extreme heat.
Advantages of Composites
Windows that are made of recycled vinyl and wood dust are called composite windows. With a composite window you are getting a product that reaps the benefits of wood (good insulator, stable, aesthetically pleasing, can be painted) combined with the benefits of vinyl (durable, customizable, easy to maintain, protection from rot and mildew). But along with these benefits you are getting a product with a steep price tag.
